Freshman Application Requirements and Processes

October-November: Prepare your application

  • BA applicants: Prepare your essay. Attend Admissions Workshops on "Writing Essays".
  • BFA applicantsPrepare your application and Art Portfolio; consider participating in a VCUarts Qatar Art Portfolio Development Course offered by the Office of Community Education; attend Admissions Workshops on "Preparing your Art Portfolio"; participate in the "Art Portfolio Review"-session!


By February 1:

  • Admission to VCUarts Qatar is highly competitive. Meeting recommended qualifications does not guarantee admission.
  • Strict Deadline. No exceptions!
  • Submit each of the application items listed below.

  • Upload into online application system.
  • Official High School transcripts, including transcripts of Grade 10, 11, and 12 (to date), showing evidence of the following:
    • University preparatory curriculum
    • Strong results/grades:
      • Qatari Thaniwiya: Recommended: 80% or higher.
      • U.S. system: Recommended: 3.00/4.00 cum grade point average (gpa) or higher.
      • U.K. system: 5-6 IGSC and 3-4 AS subject tests. Recommended: A or B grades.
      • Other school system/country’s grade requirements.
    • Transcripts issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by an official English language translation.
  • Deliver in person or by courier to VCUarts Qatar's Office of Admissions.
  • Passport or Qatar ID identification pages
  • Upload into online application system
  • Recommendation Form
    • One form required. Must be completed by a teacher, advisor, or counselor. Applicant may forward the recommendation form by email, or in hard-copy format, to the recommendor. Recommendor may submit the emailed form directly in the VCUarts Qatar application system, or may return the signed hard copy form in a sealed envelope, with his/her signature accross the flap, to the applicant for delivery to VCUarts Qatar. 
  • Submit into the online application system (by recommendor)
  • or deliver in person or by courier to VCUarts Qatar' Office of Admissions.
  • Official English Language Proficiency Test Scores (TOEFL or IELTS)
    • Required of all applicants. Some exceptions may apply (See FAQs for details)
    • TOEFL: Recommneded: 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based) 80 (internet-based), or higher
    • IELTS: Recommended:  6.0 overall band score, or higher.
    • Official test scores must be sent by the testing center directly to VCUarts Qatar. Additionally, students are asked to also submit a copy of their Student Test Score report to VCUarts Qatar's Office of Admissions. 
    • VCUarts Qatar’s TOEFL institutional code is 8753. (IELTS does not have institutional codes).
    • Applicants must make test-arrangements directly with ETS (for TOEFL) or the British Council (for IELTS).
    • Test scores may not be more than two years older than the date received at VCUarts Qatar.
    • For those residing in Qatar: The TOEFL-ibt can be taken at Hamad Bin Khalifa University on the days listed below. Pre-registration is required! Reporting time for test is 8:30am. Latecomers will not be allowed entry.
  • Deliver official scores in person or by courier to VCUarts Qatar.

Please note: 

  • If VCUarts Qatar concludes, based on reasonable grounds, that an applicant has misrepresented his/her academic or artistic background or falsified any information presented to the University as part of his/her application for admission, VCUarts Qatar reserves the right to disqualify his/her application, revoke an offer of admission, or terminate the student’s registration.  

Between February 1 and March 31

  • You may be asked to appear for additional tests.
  • VCUarts Qatar faculty assess your application materials.


  • Applicants are notified by the Office of Admissions of the decision made on their application.

By Mid-April. Strict Deadline - as noted in letter of admission

  • Admitted applicants must accept their offer of admission and pay the enrollment deposit to confirm their intention to enroll and reserve their seat in the program.
