Award recognizes noteworthy and distinct achievements made by alumni for their service to the university, to alumni, to the community and for remarkable professional success

Othman Khunji (MFA in Design, 2015) has been named by Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) as one of the university’s top 10 graduates of the previous decade.

The 10 Under 10 award recognizes noteworthy and distinct achievements made by alumni who earned their first VCU degree in the past decade. Alumni are recognized for their service to the university, service to VCU alumni, remarkable professional success, and outstanding contributions to the community.

With the award, Khunji, who is a Recruitment and Admissions Counsellor at VCUarts Qatar, joins the ranks of 40 other alumni who have accomplished success in their careers and within their communities. Othman is the first VCUarts Qatar alumnus to receive the award.

“VCUarts Qatar’s MFA program empowered and enabled me to believe in myself, establish my brand and identity and broadened my creative horizons,” Khunji said.

Khunji’s work ranges across the fields of product, and interactive installation design and his works have appeared at exhibitions in Doha, Manama, Kuwait, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, London, Paris, Berlin, St Petersburg, and Milan. Notable works include the powerful 3D-printed sculptures “Inhumane”, which contrasts the relationship between the extreme elements of purity and destruction; and “Religious Vanity II”, contrasts the concept of man and machine-made imperfect constructions, with God’s perfect creations.

Khunji is a certified member of Sarpi Bridge Oriental Design Week, Fuorisalone co-founder of Asia Design Pavilion at Milan Design Week and an official member of the Milan Fuorisalone Commission.

He has worked with local and international organizations such as Studio Banana, Virginia Commonwealth University, Brown University, King’s College London, French House of Design and Qatar Museums.

The other winners are Lynzee Chelland, E. Taylor Doctor, Whitney Mari Headen, Alan Keesee, Adele McClure, Elliot Roth, Jennifer Shannon, Joshua Son, and Elaine Genise Williams. Congratulations to all!
