His Excellency Ambassador Shingo Tsuda of the Embassy of Japan in Qatar visited VCUQatar on April 28.

He was welcomed by VCUQatar’s Dean Akel I. Kahera, Interim Director of VCUQatar’s library Amy Andres, faculty members, staff and students.

The embassy kindly donated a fascinating range of books on Japanese art and culture to VCUQatar’s library. They will be added to the growing collection in support of a new Japanese art history course at VCUQatar.

Dean Kahera thanked the Ambassador and the people of Japan for their wonderful donation of books to the library. “I am very grateful to His Excellency Ambassador Tsuda and the people of Japan for their extraordinary donation. Japanese art and design have been enormously influential throughout the world, and the country and its culture has long fascinated the people of Qatar and the US. These books will go a long way to deepening our students’ and library visitors’ understanding of all things Japanese,” he said.

Also in attendance were VCUQatar alumni, who chose 2016 to be the year they visited Japan on their annual alumni trip and they were present at the library to meet the Ambassador and his staff.
