Michael Arrighi is the Chief Safety Officer for VCUQatar.
He has 38 years of security and law enforcement experience, including a prominent role as the former Director of Global Security for Capital One Financial, where he created and led Capital One’s global security efforts for many years.
He trained units of the US Special Forces community and US National Guard in academic curricula and operational doctrine and implementation. He also participated in a number of hostage rescues during his time in government service for which he was decorated.
Michael brings a cross-cultural background to VCUQatar, having worked in many countries and in tandem with national and regional governments. For example, he worked with senior members of the Mexican government to safely resolve kidnapping situations.
Michael worked in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya from 2004-2012 in a senior security role for several United States government contracting companies that were working on reconstruction projects.
He worked with the Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Steve Fainaru on Big Boy Rules: American Mercenaries Fighting in Iraq (De Capo Press), Fainaru’s chronicle of private security companies in Iraq, during his time in Iraq and Afghanistan.
He has also been quoted in articles by The Washington Post, Newsweek, AFP, Richmond Times Dispatch, and other mainstream media outlets.
