32) Silver Jewelry Making (Advanced)

This course requires that you are familiar with the basic silver smithing techniques as taught in the Silver Jewelry Making Basics class. We will cover hollow Jewelry construction (i.e. rings, bracelets, earrings), channel settings, double step basil prong settings.

Class Outline

  1. Detailed lecture on workroom safety, sustainability and recycling of materials. Hollow Jewelry Construction, i.e. ring, pendant, bracelet, earrings
  2. Channel settings
  3. Double Step Basil / Prong Setting
  4. Double Step Pendant with Prong Setting and Channel Setting
  5. Double Step Ring with Prong Setting and Channel Setting and theoretical introduction to gold property basics
  6. Creative Jewelry making, finishing and final critique

Items to buy for this class

Participants are required to buy their own materials beforehand and bring them to every class. 

You can buy all the following materials from the instructor during the first class:

  • 100 grams of silver (ready made for use as wire or plate) at QAR 5.8 per gram = QAR 580/-
  • 10 grams of soldering cadium = QAR 50/-
  • 5 small semi precious stones for QAR 35 each = QAR 175/-
  • 1 packet of saw blades QAR 120/-

On occasions, there may be some more materials to be bought and brought in if and when advised by the instructor.
