VCUQ recently hosted its eighth Annual Fashion Show. The event was hosted under the auspices of Her Highness Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned.
"This year's fashion show promises to be really exciting due to the large enrollment in the fashion department. Chair, Sandra Wilkins has worked very hard for years to build the program and her efforts are really paying off." said Dean Christina Lindholm.
Vision is a student produced fashion show. Designs will feature an array of pieces ranging from sportswear to evening wear that equally reflects the school's focus on quality of construction and creativity.
This year's guest designer, JJ Valaya, discovered his interest in fashion in 1989, when he enrolled at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi. Upon graduation from Design school in 1991, he chose to launch his own label; a decision taken by the flip of a coin.
The House of Valaya is India's leading luxury fashion and lifestyle house. It is involved in design, manufacturing and retail of fashion and lifestyle products including apparel (Couture, Diffusion and Pręt), accessories, home and signature tapestries and luxury flowers under a host of brand names namely JJ Valaya 'Muse', JJ Valaya 'Couture', Valaya Quantum, Studio Valaya, Valaya Home and VALAYAfnp.Fleur.
"This year we have four seniors graduating, who will be showcasing their thesis collections which reflect their individual fashion visions. Children's wear inspired by cities of the world will also be featured in the show adding that something extra. It's a huge honor to host this year's guest designer JJ Valaya, we are proud to host a designer of his caliber here at VCUQ. We are also really excited that he will be bringing three models from India which will add that professional edge to the show. During the show we will also be honoring Dean Christina Lindholm" noted Sandra WilkinsChair, Department of Fashion Design. VCUQ.
