VCUQ recently hosted its fifth Annual Career Day. This annual event serves as a link to the business community to assist VCUQ students' employment success. Career Day at VCUQ is an important event which gives students an opportunity to interact with the professional community in Qatar. It also gives industries a chance to see what students are doing and to identify emerging stars for future employment.
Students received assistance, tips and techniques in resume writing, job searching and also participated in a networking session with industry professional as well as receiving helpful career advice.
The event began with a luncheon, which was followed by one on one interviews between students and professionals from their respective design fields. The interviews were an opportunity for students to present projects designed throughout their academic years at VCUQ to a practicing professional community. The event allowed students to gain experience in interviewing with professionals and to identify possible job or internship opportunities.
"Career Day gives potential employers to talk to the graduates and see the types of knowledge and skills they can offer. Our students are creative thinkers and problem solvers and are ready to take an active roll in both commercial and NGO offices. They've had an internship, networked with our alumnae and understand the requirements of jobs in this region." noted Ruth Beals
Al Jazeera, Digital Arts, Tasmeem Design and Digital Printing and Pronto Advertising were just a few of the companies that participated in the event. Mr Abdallah Al Mansouri Career Services Director of Student Affairs represented Qatar University and Tamara Khalil Communication Manager represented Qatar National Hotels Company.
"Career day gives our students the opportunity to meet professionals from different companies within the Doha Community. The feed back the guest professionals give during the interviewing process is vital for our students in helping them to pursue various careers in their disciplines upon graduation." explained Donna Duffet VCUQ Events Project Manager.
