VCUQ in partnership with the Ministry of Civil Service Affairs and Housing announced Nasser Bin Khaled (NBK)'s Al Waab City as the Diamond Sponsor of Tasmeem Doha scheduled to take place from March 5 through to March 8.

Mr. Ebrahim Al Mohannadi, Vice President of Project Management represented NBK's Al Waab City with VCUQ's Dean Christina Lindholm.  Established in the 1950's Nasser Bin Khaled has gained high levels of credibility and trust among its Qatari clientele.  It has numerous international partnerships with renowned organizations such as Mercedes-Benz, Bosch, Michelin and Elf.

Al Waab City is designed to be Doha's first community that uses green strategies and sustainable design principles to consume up to 30% less energy and water.  These principles not only make Al Waab City an environmentally friendly development, a haven of efficiency, but also establish it as a benchmark for all future developments in the region.  Al Waab City sets the standard for community living that will be emulated for ears to come.

Tasmeem Doha showcases the important role design plays in shaping our identity, determining our quality of life and driving our economy. VCUQ will host a group of speakers that are representative of the best designers working today, to address this subject. The theme of this year's conference, concerns the implementation of sustainable design practices.

Sheila de Bretteville was announced as one of the speakers' for the conference.  Sheila Levrant de Bretteville created the first Women's Design program at Cal Arts in 1971 and became the first tenured professor and director of studies in graphic design at Yale University School of Art in 1991. Through her deep research into the neighborhoods where her works are sited, her respect for the everyday life and memories of a community, de Bretteville has produced more than a dozen projects that are significant and sustain their local populations.

Tasmeem Doha 2007 will include presentations by 15 international designers, a keynote speaker on the opening night, a discussion panel by Qatar's decision makers, breakout sessions with the speakers and design exhibitions. Participants will include practitioners, design professors, students from academic institutions throughout the world and the general public.
