Index Dubai

Interior Design Students recently returned from a field trip to Dubai. During their trip they attended the Index exhibition and went to visit the Modern Decoration Company a member of Salam International Group of companies as well as the famous Ibn Battuta Mall.

With a strong global reputation based on its strength in the textiles, furniture, wallcoverings and residential lighting sectors, Index is internationally acknowledged as one of the world's leading interior events - this year, the show featured many expanded product areas including flooring.

"The trip to Dubai was a wonderful experience for the students. Index is undoubtedly one the most fascinating trade shows in the world. I believe visiting Index and Al Salam's furniture factory has helped our students to understand the current industry better. As the potential future leaders in interior design, it is essential to be connected to the industry, and understand interior design from different perspective. I would certainly encourage more and more students to go on students trip like this." noted Li Han VCUQ Assistant Professor for Graphic Design.

The trip exposed the girls to some of the most innovative interior design concepts ever seen in the region, giving them the opportunity to meet with some of the world's top interior designers and find out what will be expected of them once they graduate and start working in the field.

"I found the trip very interesting. I really enjoyed it and was astonished when we went to Al Salam International. I was inspired by their work and was amazed by the amount of detail they include in elevations and perspectives. Ibn-Battuta has amazing interiors and it shows a person how creative you can be with interiors. It was an interesting place to go to and was so inspiring." added Interior Design Student Fatima Al Burshaid

"These study trips add a reality value to the university classroom. The professors show students the design details of furniture, discuss evidence of new color trends andexplaindesign solutions while visitingmanufacturing facilities, exhibitions and new buildings. Students always return excited with their new knowledge and experiences." said Ruth Beals VCUQ Interior Design Chair.
