Muqeem Khan

Assistant Professor in Graphic Design Muqeem Khan recently returned from Turin Italy, where he presented at the Virtuality Conference.

Khan's presentation titled Flashbacks from Final Fantasy; When Talent and Technology was not enough was well received by professionals and media in Italy. According to Muqeem, production houses will be distributed all over the world and we will be seeing Disney-like movies produced by different parts of the world. These distributed design/production houses will hire many artists and designers from diversified disciplines and backgrounds.

In his presentation, he emphasized the importance of his Three T structure, Talent, Technology and Tolerance for a successful design/production house.  "Without tolerance, it would be impossible to achieve a single goal in a highly collaborative and creative environment." explained Khan.

There were many presenters at the conference from all over the world including, Industrial Light and Magic, Disney, and Veta Digital who talked about their achievements and experiences working with cutting edge technologies. "The future is not that far and soon we will be starting to experience virtual characters in motion pictures. In the future movies, it will be nearly impossible to distinguish what is real and what is not real and that is the success and correct use of computer graphics" added Khan.

Muqeem Khan received his Masters of Arts in Industrial Design in 1996 with specialization in computer graphics and animation from Advanced Computing Center for Arts and Design (ACCAD) and Department of Industrial, Interior and Visual Communication at Ohio State University, Columbus Ohio. He also obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Design from the same university in 1994. His research interests include teaching methodologies, collaborative activity across multiple disciplines and computer graphic tools for artists and designers. He has presented his research in conferences such as '4th Annual Hawaii International Conference on Arts and Humanities' in Honolulu, 'Summit on Digital Tools for the Humanities' in Virginia, 'ACM Graphite' in Singapore, 'Information Visualization' in London and 'Computers in Education' in Auckland. Muqeem is working as Assistant Professor of Communication Design at Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar. His motion picture credits, as a visual effect artist with Walt Disney and Square USA, are Deep Rising, George of the Jungle, Flubber, Armageddon and Final Fantasy.
