VCUQ students handed over monies in the amount of 63,154 Qatari Riyals to the Qatar Red Crescent Society for a recent campaign. QRCS representatives Ahmed Saleh K. Al Qahtani and Ahmed M Taha received the check.
The money was raised during two charity events held to raise not only funds, but awareness for the Lebanese and Palestinian suffering. One evening included a traditional Palestinian/ Lebanese dance known as 'Debkeh', dinner, a bazaar and also a raffle. VCUQ students Nada Hamad of Al Dar Arabic Cultural Club, Hadeer Omar and Susan Mahfouz of the Isadora Egyptian Club were main organizers of the event.
A Charity Rock Concert called Rithaa was also organized by the students. The performers were students from various schools all over Doha, songs ranged from classic rock to contemporary hits. The show was held under the patronage of Sheikha Amna bint Suhaim Al Thani.
Students were responsible for every stage of the project from planning, to finding sponsors and all related marketing activities.
Qatar Decoration and Qatar National Bank were the main sponsors of the Lebanese Palestine event. All proceeds from both events were given to the Qatar Red Crescent Society.
"VCUQ has raised the most money within Education City. You are leaders in this charity effort. We appreciate not only the money that you raised but the mentality and the attitude that you have shown in organizing these vents. You managed to create a social responsibility into a celebration and fun activity, we really appreciate this" said Taha while thanking students for their creative ideas.
"VCUQ students are committed, passionate and driven to help others. The effort to raise money came entirely from them and we are unspeakably proud of them" added Valerie Jeremijenko VCUQ Assistant Dean of Students Affairs
Sheikha Amna bint Suhaim Al Thani also donated 20,500 QRS to this worthwhile cause.
The QCRS is continuing with its relief aids to the Lebanese families affected by the recent war. The food relief has reached the needy in different areas in Lebanon including Sidon, Beirut, Tripoli and others.
