Lebanon Palestine Fundraiser

VCUQ students recently organized a charity evening to raise funds and awareness for Lebanon and Palestine. The evening included a traditional Palestinian/ Lebanese dance known as 'Dabkeh', dinner, a bazaar and also a raffle. The event took place in the VCUQ atrium.

Dancers from the Layali Baladnah band were led by Mohammed Abdullah Ibrahim in performing the traditional 'Dabkeh'. Traditional handicrafts from the Palestinian Red Crescent were on sale in the Bazaar as well as items from Lebanese Arts.

VCUQ students Nada Hamad of Al Dar Arabic Cultural Club, Hadeer Omar and Susan Mahfouz of the Isadora Egyptian Club were main organizers of the event.

"The purpose of this event was of course to raise awareness of this important cause. At the same time we have organized these clubs to emphasize the richness of our culture; many young Arabs have no idea about their culture and heritage. It is important for us as well as non- Arabs to know about our heritage. We hope to have many more events in the future." said Hamad.

Qatar Decoration and Qatar National Bank were main sponsors of the event. All proceeds from the event were given to the Qatari Red Crescent.
