Excellence Day

Four VCUQ alumnae were honored by the Heir Apparent and Chairman of the Supreme Education Council (SEC) H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Education Excellence Day for their outstanding academic achievements at university. The ceremony was held at the Ritz Carlton and was attended by Her Highness Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned and a host of other dignitaries.

Awards were given to three Graphic Design alumna Farah Ali Al Madeed, Reem Yousef Al Sai, and Muneera Hamad Al Badi and one Interior Design alum Hanouf Abdul Rahman Al Thani.

"The Education Excellence Day was a wonderful way to recognize the efforts of high achieving students. It was very rewarding to see VCUQ graduates honored alongside other excellent students and alumnae." said VCUQ Dean Christina Lindholm

"We are very pleased that the HH (Heir Apparent) included these exemplary VCUQ students in this fitting tribute to education excellence. This was a great way to acknowledge the outstanding efforts of these hard working young women." added VCUQ Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Charles F. Bleick.

Farah Ali Al Madeed, valedictorian for the class of 2006 was the youngest student in her freshman class at 16 years of age. During her four years of matriculation she received many awards recognizing her academic and leadership abilities. These include the Mimar Award for best freshman, the Al Ahli Bank Scholarship for academic excellence in her sophomore year and the Qatar Ministry of Education Award in both her Junior and senior years.

"Studying at VCUQ was a wonderful experience, not only from an educational aspect, but also being a part of the VCUQ community, enjoying the company of friends and the whole atmosphere was just great." said Farah.

Students with at least 95% in the Secondary General Certificate Examination (GCE) and university students who earned a minimum 3.6 grade point average (GPA) were given the honor. This was the first time Undergraduate Degree recipients were honored and this was the first time an Education City university received the honor.
