VCUQ Helps Collect 36,500QR for QNCS
Doha, Qatar - The Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar (VCUQ) handed over monies in the amount of 36,500 Qatari Riyals to the Qatar National Cancer Society (QNCS) for their the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign. QNCS representatives Amal Al Langawi and Elham Al Naimi received the check.
"Our mission is to raise awareness of breast cancer in ways other than just the typical lecture. As well as organizing conferences, we like to come up with fun and interesting themes to get people's attention. Once we have people's interest we can then introduce our cause." said Amal Al Langawi, Project Supervisor QNCS.
The money was raised during a Fashion Show that VCUQ produced for QNCS. Students, alumnae and faculty members donated creations for the auction which took place after the show. Forty garments were specifically made for the show, to raise money for the important cause.
"It was our privilege and in some ways our responsibility to help raise money for and awareness of breast cancer. This terrible disease can be conquered." said VCUQ Dean, Christina Lindholm.
The Fashion shows produced by VCUQ were attended by VIPs and members of the Qatari community.
"An important part of being in VCUQ is being a part of the Qatari community. We encourage all our students to be a part of the community. Community involvement is just as important as the pursuit of the degree itself. Breast Cancer is certainly the number one cause for women today; we have all been touched by this cause in one way or another." said Sandra Wilkins VCUQ Fashion Department Chair and Fashion Show Producer.
