Programs and Curriculum
Interior Design
Qatar and the Gulf region boast a rich heritage that spans the cultural traditions of antiquity to the design aesthetics of the twenty-first century. The Interior Design Program introduces students to this varied culture which students integrate into their design solutions.
Interior designers work with space. They creatively solve the needs of people to form imaginative interior environments that are functional, safe, and aesthetically pleasant.
Interior design involves the flow and shaping of integrated spaces; the selection and coordination of finishes, materials, textures, and colors; the planning and selection of lighting and other electronic equipment; and the choosing of appropriate furnishings and equipment.
At VCUQ, students receive the education and experience they need to excel as interior designers. Students must have a firm knowledge of technical graphic communication and develop the ability to present information both manually and by computer. Additionally, students study the history of interior design environments and theories of design.
Students learn among professors who are interior design professionals and who bring their background and current professional experiences to the Program to ensure the highest quality of interior design education. The professional expertise of the VCUQ faculty adds tremendous value to both the classroom and studio settings.
The curriculum blends the breadth of a university education with the practical value and insight gained from a professional program. During the final year of studies, students participate in an internship with a practicing designer (approved by VCUQ) whereby they receive hands-on experience and the opportunity to hone design and business skills in preparation for full-time employment.
