Success Stories
VCUQatar alumni have many success stories. Our alumni have the choice of jobs when they graduate from VCUQatar and because of the boom environment in Qatar right now the projects are amongst the most exciting in the region.
VCUQatar alumni are working at Al Jazeera Kids Channel developing a whole new range of Islamic-friendly Arabic kids' programs. They have excelled in graduate programs in the United States, Canada, and Britain. Two alumni were selected to represent Qatar on the Middle Eastern Partnership Initiative program for young professional women and completed 6 month internships in the States. VCUQatar alumni work at Fitch International, Qatar's National Olympic Committee and the Islamic Museum. Many alumni are freelancing or operating their own businesses.
Listed below are just some of the successes.
Noor Hamad Al Thani and Noor Jassim Al Thani
Fashion Design alumnae Noor Hamad Al Thani and Noor Jassim Al Thani displayed their haute couture creations, adorned on local and international models, to invited guests at Salam Plaza.
The girls were launching their commercial lines, tying into a new company that is being established with the support of Salam International.
Noor Hamad Al Thani is fashion personified. With a string of awards and exhibitions, which include Lebanon's Hekayat Mosamim Fashion Show, she has taken inspiration from her cultural roots and that of the world around her to create her own distinctive brand of fusion couture.
Noor Jassim Al Thani is one of the most exciting fashion design prospects to come out of Qatar. Her designs take all these influences. For lack of superlatives, her work can be described as "Arab inspired chic, infused with worldly sensibilities'.
Johara Al Suwaidi
Interior Design alumna, Johara Al Suwaidi was awarded with a Middle East Partner Initiative (MEPI) scholarship, which is a U.S business internship program for young Middle Eastern women. Johara is the third VCUQatar student to be awarded this honor.
MEPI, a U.S. Presidential Initiative, was founded to work with governments and people within the Arab world to expand economic, political and educational opportunities for all people of the region. The competition is merit-based and open to all females between the ages of 22 and 32 who are citizens of Middle East countries.
Applicants are evaluated on academic excellence, leadership potential, proficiency in written and spoken English, professional maturity and suitability to operate successfully in an American corporate environment.
The program includes an academic business component and an internship, in which the student is exposed to the day-to-day operations of a U.S. business.
