Academic Requirements
Candidates for admission to VCU School of the Arts in Qatar are reviewed on the basis of English language ability, art and design portfolios and academic performance.
Academic performance is measured by GPA and/or class rank in an accredited high school or on GED scores and either ACT or SAT I scores. For U.S. secondary school degrees the college preparatory curriculum is highly preferred, and a minimum of 20 units is required.
Applicants must present a minimum of:
- 4 units of English
- 3 units of mathematics (including algebra I and either geometry or algebra II)
- 2 units of science (at least one laboratory)
- 3 units of history, social studies, or government
- additionally, at least 2 units of a foreign language are strongly recommended
For non-American schools you should consult with the Student Affairs Office to determine specific requirements.
The following is a list of some common non-American secondary certificates and the corresponding minimum requirements for admissions in VCUQ.
Qatari GEC (Thanawiya)
- Recommended minimum 85%
National Secondary SchoolCertificates
- Modular Path (All subjects): Minimum Grade Point Average required is 2.00
IGCSE, GCSE, GCE (British System)
- A minimum of 11 years of schooling is required, and the school leaving certificate must be provided. Students must complete a minimum of five (5) different subjects with a minimum grade of C for each subject. Only subjects classified as academic (including arts and creativity group subjects) will be accepted for admission consideration.
- At IGCSE level the students should present passing grades in Math, English, a social science, a science and an elective
- At AS levels students should present passing grades in 3 to 4 subjects.
International Baccalaureate (IB)
- Must complete any six (6) subjects, with at least three (3) at the higher level. The equivalent minimum GPA requirement is 2.00.
- Completion of one of the following (12th Standard): Higher Secondary School Certificate; Intermediate Examination Certificate; All India Senior School Certificate. Minimum - 75%
Pakistani Board(s) Certificates
- Higher Secondary SchoolCertificate (Part II) required
- Completion of Baccalaureate Part II required
French Baccalaureate or equivalent
- Completion of Baccalaureate required with minimum overall score of 10 (passable/moyen) from a lycee accredited by the French Ministry of Education
