VCUQatar Presents Student, Alumni and Common Thread Fashion Trunk Show

The Fashion Promotion Class at Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar in conjunction with Common Thread presents a Fashion Trunk Show on Monday, 12 December with a reception at 5:00 PM at the Bookstore at VCUQatar.

The VCUQatar Student, Alumni and Common Thread Trunk Show showcases the works of over 20 students and alumni, featuring fashion, jewelry, accessories and other pleasant surprises. Proceeds from the show go to the VCUQatar Scholarship fund.

Common Thread is a “traveling trunk show” that supports local artists and designers by providing them a platform to display and sell their products. The show takes place at established local venues including boutiques and salons. Most of the participants either make or design their products, often both. All vendors are screened and chosen for their quality and uniqueness. “Common Thread is an open, friendly environment that has a creative community vibe. Unlike a bazaar we focus on a few talented people who deserve to stand out and command your attention,” says Common Thread founder Joanna Dallimore, a VCUQatar alumna herself.

A Trunk Show is a special sale in which vendors present merchandise directly to select customers at a retail location or another unique venue. It allows the customer to preview and/or purchase merchandise before it is made available to the public, in the presence of the actual designers.

Fashion Promotion is about what goes on behind the scenes of fashion houses and retailers. The Fashion Promotion course at VCUQatar prepares students for roles in the global fashion promotion industry through a study of the theory and practice while allowing them to experience the context in the wider perspectives of fashion, society and the environment. Students learn everything from advertising techniques and retail space layouts to creating window displays to putting together special events. The class is a required course for a Fashion Design degree from VCUQatar and students can take it any time within their years at university.

Meet and support Doha’s emerging young designers at the VCUQatar Student, Alumni and Common Thread Trunk Show and get a firsthand look at their original creations. The Opening is on 12 December from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a reception at 5:00 PM at the Bookstore at VCUQatar. The Trunk Show runs from 12 to 15 December at the Bookstore at VCUQatar. The event is open to the public.
