Through its participation in QCF 2011, VCUQatar spoke to young Qataris about job opportunities available at the university. VCUQatar also educated Qatari students about the various opportunities in design and how design in Qatar today is facilitating the innovation process be it in business, fashion, art, architecture, advertising and other media. VCUQatar handed out information on the university’s interdisciplinary MFA in design studies which is targeted at everybody with a passion for revolutionary design be they engineers, doctors or artists, as long as they bring with them a meaningful vision about design in the world and see themselves expanding and applying that vision.
The aim of QCF 2011 was not just to provide job opportunities to Qataris but also make them aware of the other opportunities available in the market in training and development in the different business sectors. VCUQatar continues playing a central role in the contemporary business and cultural life of Qataris and Middle Easterners in the realm of design. VCUQatar graduates work in various positions in the government and ministries in Qatar and in the private sector and many have also gone on to successfully establish their own businesses.
VCUQatar has participated in QCF since its inception and the response its participation has garnered continues to be immense. The university supports the design community in Qatar through the many gallery exhibitions, international conferences, lecture series, field studies, world-class fashion shows and workshops with visiting delegates presented each year, and hopes to carry on playing a key role in supporting the development of Qatar. VCUQatar also distributed the Senior Showcase invite at QCF.
Senior Showcase, taking place at VCUQatar on 1 May, 2011, is a professional networking session with students for employers looking to sign new talent. Employers and the general public will get to meet Qatar’s graduating designers at the event where graphic, fashion and interior design students will present their final design portfolios. The gallery at VCUQatar will host a special exhibition showcasing a selection of works by VCUQatar’s graduating seniors. The event is open to the design industry and the general public.
Qatar Career Fair 2011, organized under the aegis of Qatar Foundation, Qatar University, the Amiri Diwan, Qatar Petroleum and the Ministry of Labour, took place between 10 and 14 April and had over 55,000 visitors. The event also acted as a platform for professional establishments and businesses to present their expertise to the youth of Qatar.
