“Everyday we face problems, which if given some creative thinking can be overcome by well designed solutions. The 2008 design competition is a chance for students to respond to small or large problems faced by people they see daily,” stated Can Ikram, Director of Admissions.
Based on this year’s theme of Better Living through Better Design students in the competition have a chance to express their ideas for problems they see in their environment. Along with a chance to win cash prizes ranging from $1000 for first place to $200 for fifth place, two qualified students can apply for and earn the full four-year Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned Scholarship for Creativity to study design at VCUQatar.
“Design is about inspiring people in our region with creative and thoughtful ideas. Bringing better living to our neighborhoods by designing better products or solutions is what we are looking for from students. We want them to design something that will make life better for people of their community,” explained Ahmad Zaghmout, VCUQatar Senior Recruitment Officer.

There will be five cash prizes in each country of $1,000, $800, $600, $400, $200 sponsored by Regency Group Holding which owns and operates business in the fields of property development, real estate marketing, facilities management, tourism, travel and hospitality. The five country winners from can submit a full university application for a chance to win one of the two full Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned Scholarships for Creativity to attend VCUQatar for four years. The scholarship pays for tuition, housing and academic expenses for students studying fashion, graphic or interior design at VCUQatar.
The competition is open to students in Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.
