VCUQatar recently hosted the world renowned Indian fashion designer Manish Arora this week. The designer spent time with fashion students in the classroom and also gave a public presentation.
"Manish is one of the most talented and creative designers today. He is a man who marches to his own music, and we love it. I am touched by his generosity to our students and they will be forever changed. I am hoping he will be a constant figure in the education of our students. His appreciation of his own culture and his efforts to incorporate that culture in his design process is our hope for our students. The Middle Eastern culture is so rich and offers such positive inspiration that it can not be ignored. I believe now the students understand just how important that recognition is for all of fashion." said Sandra Wilkins VCUQatar Fashion Design and Merchandising Department Chair.
Manish Arora launched his Label 'Manish Arora' and started retailing at Carma, New Delhi. In 1998 he showed his first collection at Park Hotel, New Delhi and the Indian press correctly recognized him as the Rising Star of Indian Fashion.
Manish has represented India at the Hong Kong Fashion Week. London Fashion Week, Paris Fashion Week and participated at the first ever India Fashion Week held in New Delhi. In September 2007 he was invited to show his collection at the very prestigious "Fashion in Motion" held at Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
Manish will be showing his Spring/Summer -2008 collection during the Paris Fashion Week.
"I was really impressed by the student's creativity here at VCUQatar. I think its wonderful that the students have the opportunity to work in small classes providing them with the one on one time with their professors, when I was studying I was used to much larger classes." said Arora.
