VCUQatar hosts Gala Dinner to close Mousharaka

Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar in partnership with Icograda ended the Mousharaka Conference with a Gala Dinner at the Sharq Village and Spa. Mousharaka took place at VCUQatar from 28 February to 5 March, 2009.

The Gala Dinner began at 7:30 PM on 5 March, 2009, the last day of Mousharaka with Ms Sandra Wilkins, Chair of the Fashion Design Department introducing the entertainment for the evening – a fashion show presented by VUQatar Alumni and budding entrepreneur Sara Nasser Abdulghany’s Sara’s Secrets.

Guests got a glimpse of Arabian fashion from an original Qatari point of view, the clothes a definite reflection of the designer’s personality. The fabrics were rich, luxurious and epitomized everything exquisite, artistic and truly Arabesque. With names that could have been picked straight out of the Arabian Nights – The Beauty of the Desert, The Magic of the East, The Princess of Passions – the clothes line dazzled everybody who received the collection with rounds of applause.

The woman behind this venture – Ms. Abdulghany, was introduced at the end of the fashion show by Ms. Wilkins to another round of applause. Ms. Abdulghany had gifts for the crowd as well – a jewelry set; a shela and abaya and a gelabiya which three very lucky people won when the draw was held just after the fashion show. All three prizes were from Sara’s Secrets latest collection. Sara’s Secrets was also a sponsor for Mousharaka.

Soon after the fashion show, guests enjoyed a wonderful dinner amid other entertainment to the strains of Arabic music. Guests mingled with the speakers of the conference and a good time was had by all.

Mousharaka / The Icograda Design Week in Qatar, presented by VCUQatar, was composed of the Education Symposium and the Professional Conference, where prominent speakers shared perspectives on design and design collaborations and students engaged in two-day workshops culminating in an exhibition of the best work..
