VCUQatar recently hosted its fifth Annual Career Day. This annual event serves as a link to the business community to assist VCUQatar students' employment success. The event also gives senior students, who are entering the workforce this year, the opportunity to meet professionals in their field of study as well as giving the student the opportunity to practice their interviewing skills. Students greatly benefit from this experience and in the past the interviews have opened up many job opportunities for them upon graduation.
"This year we had a huge interest from Qatar's business community. Students were really excited about showing prospective employers their portfolios. The annual luncheon always provides a great opportunity for the student/ employer exchange" said VCUQatar Events Project Manager Donna Duffet.
Students received assistance, tips and techniques in CV writing, job searching and also participated in a networking session with industry professionals as well as receiving helpful career advice.
Career Day at VCUQatar is an important event because it gives students an opportunity to interact with the professional community in Qatar. It also gives industries a chance to see what students are doing and to identify emerging stars for future employment.
"Half of the interior design seniors were offered jobs. This proves the success of our program. VCUQatar graduates who are known as 'VCUQers' have a reputation of being professional, responsible and knowledgeable individuals who are being sought after by the employment community in both the public and private sectors." added Ruth Beals Interior Design Department Chair.
The Emiri Diwan, Adabisc, Pronto Advertising, Tasmeem Design and Digital Printing Company, Al Jazeera International Chanel, Qatar University, Qatar Foundation, Qatar National Hotels and Barwa were some of the companies who participated in this event. Renowned architect Ibrahim Jaidah represented the Arab Engineering Bureau.
