VCUQatar held its seventh graduation ceremony on May 10, 2008 at The Ritz Carlton. VCUQatar graduated its seventh class of new designers whose work will impact the development of Qatar for years to come. The 7th Commencement will bring the number of VCUQatar alumni to 180.
"Celebrating VCUQatar 10th year anniversary and seeing the outstanding work of our senior students as the 7th graduating class has been true honor.
There are now some wonderful career opportunities for our new graduates based on the success of our career day. The whole university has enjoyed reflecting on the first ten years and looking forward to the coming decade." said VCUQatar Dean Allyson Vanstone.
The ceremony marks the culmination of four years of hard work and perseverance. Students, their families, their friends, faculty and staff came together to celebrate VCUQatar graduates' accomplishments and rejoice in their venture into professional status. The graduates have spent the past four years fulfilling an intensive and rigorous curriculum, one designed to foster not just first-rate designers but well-rounded individuals prepared for the challenges and responsibilities of a highly complex professional world.
A very special milestone at this graduation is that the first VCUQatar student to double major is part of Class of 2008. Sara Nasser Al-Thani will be completing a double major in both Fashion Design and Interior Design.
The Fashion Designer Isabel Toledo, whose eponymous clothing line is followed by everyone from fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld to Paper magazine editor Kim Hastreiter, delivered the commencement address to the 39 graduates during the afternoon ceremonies.
Along with her husband, Ruben Toledo, Isabel was the recipient of the Copper Hewitt National Design Award for their work in fashion in 2005. Toledo made her debut with Anne Klein at New York Fashion Week in February 2007 to critical acclaim.
