Orientation and Academic Advising
VCUQatar endeavors to make student life an enriching experience in both academic accomplishments and student life. A significant goal is to help students make a smooth transition to the university. New students participate in orientation programs and enroll in UNIV 101, a semester-long college transition class. Academic advising is a continuous part of a student’s experience. A faculty advisor helps students coordinate their educational programs by selecting appropriate courses and periodically reviewing the student’s progress. Each student is assigned two advisors, one who focuses on advising in the major and another who assists in the Liberal Arts and Sciences component of the degree requirements.
Counseling, Health and Wellness Services
The Counseling Office offers a broad range of support to VCUQatar students, such as assisting with academic and social adjustment, addressing psychological or health issues, and helping with student concerns, such as conflicts with peers or relationships with faculty. The office also offers a variety of developmental and health maintenance programs, such as a yearly Health Fair where students can check their health, donate blood and learn about nutrition and health issues. The office also launched an anti-smoking campaign and a walk for fitness program. Counseling services are available to help students in the event of a medical emergency, illness or injury. A medical unit is located within Education City where students can receive free medical care.
