E) Portfolio Development Class E

The admissions portfolio requirements of VCUQatar emphasize creative thinking and development as being of equal importance to drawing skills. This course will teach the necessary skills to build a competitive portfolio. Students will have time for practice and personal feedback, while developing an understanding of the vigor and value of an arts/design education at VCUQ.

Class Outline

Week 1:          Introduction to course, teacher, and VCUQ

                      Introduction to composition

                      Introduction to sketch booking

Week 2:          Observational drawing / Line

Week 3:          Introduction to Color

Week 4:          Introduction to basic Value Drawing

Week 5:          Advanced Value Drawing

Week 6:          Creative Thinking: Sketchbook and Communicating Ideas

Week 7:          Using a Camera to document ideas and your work

Week 8:          Final review - preparing your portfolio

Please note: VCUQatar reserves the right to cancel classes for which not enough participants are registered. Already paid fees will be refunded.

Please do not purchase materials until VCUQatar has sent final course confirmation.

Items to buy for this class

To be bought and brought in for every class by course participants

- Sketchbook A4 (all mediums purpose) 
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Eraser
- Pencil sharpener
- Black Pilot pen (fine liner)
- A set of colored pencils (at least 20 different colors)

On occasions, there may be some more materials to be bought and brought in if and when advised by the instructor


Materials that will be supplied by VCUQatar per student
- Drawing paper A3 - 5 sheets
- 2B / 4B / 6B pencils
- Charcoal
- Kneadable eraser

Materials that will be supplied by VCUQatar as class room materials
- Drawing paper A3 - full pad

On occasions, there may be some more materials to be bought and brought in if and when advised by the instructor.

Sultana Jesmine

Sultana Jesmine is a Masters Candidate at VCUQatar. She is an Interdisciplinary Designer, Interior Designer and Fashion Designer. Jesmine loves to travel and to learn from different cultures, which in turn enriches her as an individual and her design studies. Continuous learning and teaching are one of her many passions. She enjoys sports and adventures, from kayaking and hiking to basketball and high jumping, and much more. Her diverse experiences include leadership and community service, graphic design, photography and videography. Come say hello, and she will be thrilled to meet you!
