About this class

You’re in for a joyful rollercoaster ride as we explore the wonders of paper and take you on a journey from the world of 2D to the world of 3D. On this joyful ride, we will explore different techniques of paper folding and layering that will develop into a pop-up book. By the end of the class, you will be taking us on a journey to your own world and share with us the story of your pop-up book.

Class Outline
  1. Introduction to pop-up elements and paper mechanism, and learning and practicing the first technique for small objects to create a pop-up element
  2. Learning and practicing the second technique for big objects to create a pop-up element
  3. Introduction to storytelling and creating pop-up elements for final pop-up book
  4. Adding colours and patterns to finale the pop-up elements and share stories

Items to buy for this class

–  Coloured (hard) paper book

– Colour markers

– Colour pencils (optional)

– Scissor

– Pencil

– Eraser                                            

– Ruler

– Double sided tape (preferably thin)

– White glue

On occasions, there may be some more materials to be bought and brought in if and when advised by the instructor.

Noor Suleiman AlOraidi

Noor (Suleiman) AlOraidi earned her Bachelor Degree with Distinction from VCUQatar with a major in Interior Design and a minor in Art History. She assisted in many VCUQatar community classes for kids and young adults, as she believes that arts and crafts help children and young adults develop their motor skills, in addition to their artistic expression.

In her work, Noor aims to explore different techniques of storytelling, whether it’s through design, taking pictures, or physical art installations.
