08) Acrylic Painting Workshop

This painting class deals with relatively simple, straightforward subjects. They're intended to be building blocks to help you develop your painting skills. You've got to learn to walk with your paint brush if you want to run wild with it and your imagination successfully.

While there are a few tried-and-true techniques all beginners should try out, don't limit yourself to the basics! Mix and match methods and techniques, exploring the ways of painting that feel right to you. As you develop your skills, you'll notice that your techniques will become refined into your own unique method of creating art.

Class Outline

  1. Introduction to class and materials + small exercise
  2. Techniques for paint application
  3. Techniques for paint application detailing, knife acrylic painting

Items to buy for this class

Participants are required to buy their own materials beforehand and bring them to every class.

  • Set of acrylic paints in primary colors and optional colors
  • Set of acrylic paintbrushes
  • Foam brush
  • Set of painting (palette) knives
  • Painting surface - canvas, wood, paper
  • Artist’s palette
  • Rag/paper towels
  • Cup or jar of water
  • Soap for clean-up
  • Varnish
  • Drying retarder
  • Gloves

On occasions, there may be some more materials to be bought and brought in if and when advised by the instructor.

Maya Ismail

Maya Ismail is a Lebanese/Colombian and holds a BA in Arts and Graphic Design. She is a hands-on, experienced art teacher, guiding students in various arts as well as developing their creativity. She designs and creates active lessons engaging learners to reach their fullest potential of creative production.

Ismail develops concepts and artwork, creating graphic design solutions from concept through to completion. She is responsible for developing and creating both digital and print designs for a wide range of print, publications, and advertising. “Multi-culture is my passion; traveling and discovering art in history books inspires my work.”
