Liberal Arts and Sciences
Liberal arts and sciences courses promote a broad intellectual, cultural and social development for students. Within this program students have the opportunity to complete an art history minor in addition to completing the BFA in their design area. Please note that liberal arts and sciences requirements for the BFA degree must be successfully fulfilled prior to the granting of the degree.
- Focused Inquiry courses teach written communication, oral proficiency, critical thinking, information fluency, ethics, social responsibility and literacy.
- English and Literature courses provide students with an opportunity for in-depth reading and analysis of literature in a variety of genres and considerable practice doing researched writing.
- Art History courses enable students to examine traditional and non-traditional forms of art across a variety of historical, geographic, cultural and intellectual contexts.
- Natural/physical sciences introduce students to natural science concepts used in everyday technology. Topics include energy, measurements, material properties, heat, optics, electricity, magnetism, mechanics and flotation.
- Behavioral/social sciences introduce psychological and sociological theories, concepts and methodologies that students can use to enhance understanding of self, society, and the use of behavioral and social science techniques in design.
- Mathematics courses offer specific problem-solving skills with an emphasis on algebraic and geometric concepts. Topics include growth and symmetry, optimization problems, and mathematics with applications in areas of social choice.
