Spring 2012 Community Classes

Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar announces non-credit community classes as part of our mission to provide educational, cultural and design opportunities to the various communities of Qatar.

All classes are open to both women and men of all ages, and unless otherwise noted are taught in English at the VCUQatar building located within Education City campus on Al Luqta Street, Doha.

  • Pay securely online below or in person at the VCUQatar Student Affairs office between 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM. Seats are limited and can only be reserved with full payment.
  • Refunds incur a minimum fee of $20, and cannot be processed after the start of classes

  • All fees are donated to the VCUQatar scholarship fund. Fees are based on both instructor contact hours and materials.
  • Please note that certificates for the courses will be handed out to students during the last class only. Students who want to receive their certificate should be present for this class.

1) Oil Painting Basics

This course is designed as an introduction to the techniques of oil painting, however all levels of experience are welcome.  The class will focus primarily on still life, with the option of portraiture later in the course for those who are interested.

8) Oil Painting Basics - taught in Arabic

This class will introduce painting with oil color and the potential for this material, through teaching oil colors technique, how to apply ,mix and blend colors directly on canvas or on pallet, how to draw with brush strokes. It will show the students many classic master paintings which show different trends to enrich their knowledge, this course will assist the students who have a background to enhance their artistic knowledge, and will help beginners to get involved with the artistic atmosphere.

10) Textile Printing Design - taught in Arabic

11) Jewelry Drawing

Class will focus on jewelry model making, sketching and drawing designs, jewelry design presentation techniques, study about gem stones, period jewelries, trends and styles, principles and elements of design applied in jewelry designing. Students will make individual jewelry design model presentations and develop Design Boards and make 3D drawings with specifications in professional standards.

24) 3D Studio Max 2010 Intensive – 1, Class A

As the most widely used 3D package in the world, 3d Studio Max provides a comprehensive, integrated 3D modeling, animation, and rendering solution for professionals. This course is part one of an extensive hands-on training in all 3D Studio Max areas, including: modeling, materials-texturing-shading, UVW mapping, interior-exterior-lighting, cameras setup, character rigging, animation techniques, rendering and special effects. All lessons are reinforced with projects that apply each new technique to a real-world scenario. In this course we share with you valuable tips and insights gained during years of experience. This course will be continued with part two (3D Studio Max 2010 Intensive – 2, further 16 sessions at additional QAR 4,000) during the late spring program mid-April to Mid-June.

An Exploration of Graphic Design through the integration of Typography and imagery from planning, conceptualization, and creation, through management of content for a variety of projects.
