Why study Interior Design?
Your time at VCUQatar will be a rigorous, rewarding, multi-cultural experience
The VCUQatar experience is a multi-cultural exploration. Students are exposed to local customs and traditions as well as real-world problems that face the global community today. All graduates complete a liberal arts and science core curriculum in addition to their major requirements; these courses enrich a student’s understanding of the world and help them frame their art and design studies in a broad intellectual context.
ID professors are international, multi-disciplinary design professionals
Interior Design students at VCUQatar are taught by experienced academics who have practiced design and conduct scholarly research. The professional expertise of the VCUQatar faculty adds tremendous value to both classroom and studio settings. The current faculty includes two corporate interior designers, two with experience in branding and retail/exhibition design, a furniture designer, and three architects with interior design experience. They are also culturally diverse with home bases in China, Sweden, the UK, and the US.
You will gain both theoretical knowledge and practical real-world experience
The curriculum blends the breadth of a university education with the practical value and insight gained from a professional program. Classroom instruction is supplemented by real world experiences: studio instruction is enhanced by practicing designers who conduct workshops, critique and design juries, all students complete an internship work experience in the field, and field studies expose students to examples of high quality interior design installations and design markets both locally and internationally. Recent field studies have been to Seoul, London, and Dubai, and trips are being planned to Abu Dhabi and Finland for 2011-2012.
Graduates receive an accredited degree from a top American university
Interior Design students at VCUQatar earn a four-year Bachelor of Fine Arts degree that is equivalent to the degree offered on VCU’s home campus in the United States. VCU’s Interior Design program was ranked in the “Top Ten 2011 Programs” in the US by DesignIntelligence. VCUQatar is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art & Design (NASAD) and the Interior Design program has been accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) since 2005. The curriculum follows the North American model that views Interior Design and Interior Architecture programs as educating students for the same profession, and CIDA accredits programs with either name using the same standards.
You will join an exciting, dynamic multi-billion dollar industry
Interior Design has a significant impact in the world. Research shows that good interior design can boost office productivity, increase sales, attract a more affluent clientele, provide a more relaxing stay or increase a building’s market value.
VCUQatar’s goal is to prepare students to succeed and become leaders in the region and beyond.
Our graduates can be found working as professional interior designers, event planners, product developers, and textile and furniture designers. Many work for prominent architecture and design firms, while others have gone on to obtain graduate degrees or started their own successful businesses.
