VCU & VCUarts
VCU enrolls more than 32,000 students in 208 certificate and degree programs in the arts, sciences and humanities. Sixty-five of the programs are unique in Virginia, many of them crossing the disciplines of VCU’s 15 schools and one college. MCV Hospitals and the health sciences schools of Virginia Commonwealth University compose the VCU Medical Center, one of the nation’s leading academic medical centers.
A Tradition of Innovation
More than 80 years ago, the VCU School of the Arts in Richmond began by offering just one class in painting. Today, the school has established more than 15 nationally and internationally recognized programs in the visual and performing arts, making it one of the largest arts programs in the United States.
The VCU School of the Arts is ranked the number one public university school of arts and design in the country by U.S. News & World Report (2009). Its Department of Fashion Design and Merchandising is one of the largest in the United States. The Department of Interior Design is among the top five interior design programs in the nation, and the Department of Graphic Design is ranked the fourth best in the United States overall.
VCU’s graduates have made an impact in nearly every area of art and design and have been recognized with a wide range of awards from the White House, the Academy Awards, MTV, Architectural Digest, Nike, Oscar de la Renta, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Disney Studios and Time magazine.
