37) Leather bags for Adults (ages 15+)

This is a beginner level course to introduce the fine and exacting art of leather handcraft. The course develops the basic skill sets for leatherwork by introducing the students to the processes of designing, etching, sewing and finishing the leather to make a utility leather bag and clutch of their own choice.

Class Outline

  1. Introduction to leather craft and familiarisation with leather types. Learning the use of tools and introduction of etching using a leather engraver.
  2. Template preparation for leather bag and making different designs by etching. Cutting and creating designs on the bag using the punch tool.
  3. Bonding and assembly of leather bag. Punching the holes on the leather for sewing.
  4. Preparation of leather strips.Sewing the bag using the strips.
  5. Template preparation for leather clutch. Cutting and creating designs using the punch tool.
  6. Preparation of pockets and latch attachment. Bonding and assembly.
  7. Punching the holes on the leather for sewing. Preparation of leather strips.
  8. Sewing the clutch using the strips. Leather finishing techniques.

Items to buy for this class

Participants are required to buy their own materials beforehand and bring them to every class

   ▪   Long pointed scissors with an ergonomic handle.

   ▪   UHU all-purpose adhesive (20ml tube)

Leather can be bought from the instructor in class; for a bag as big shown in the sample picture, the cost will be approximately 150-200 QAR.

Leather punching tool will be shared in the class.

On occasions, there may be some more materials to be bought and brought in if and when advised by the instructor.

She is passionate about sharing her rewarding experience and is a dedicated teacher. Sangeeta has perfected her own unique method for making ceramic bracelets. She also make her own mosaics for decorative artwork for any space.
